LANScan Network Summary

LANScan starts monitoring network activity immediately on startup. While it is running, it constantly tracks network activit and compiles statistics on usage. When LANScan starts, it automatically displays a Network Summary view, highlighting key data about the network. An example of the Network Summary is shown below:

The view uses bar graphs and an Explorer tree to report network activity. The tree can be expanded and collapsed to show data. In the tree are the bandwidth, top hosts, top protocols and events.
Bandwidth shows the percentage of bandwidth used on the network over the last sample period(10 seconds, by default), 5 minutes, 1 hour and 8 hours. Typically, the higher the percentage, the slower the network will be able to respond to users.
Top Hosts shows the top 5 network devices, according to the amount of traffic generated. Use this feature to quickly identify possible causes of network congestion.
Top Protocols shows the top 5 protocols in use on the network. This helps identify the type of applications generating network traffic.
Events are LANScan objects which can report unexpected network activity, like excessive bandwidth usage. The summary shows the number that are configured, and how many of those are active, meaning the condition has been met (such as 'Bandwidth usage has exceeded 25% for the past 15 minutes").
