LANScan Log Groups
Events can be triggered based on network activity or problems with individual
devices. How do you make sure the right person finds out about it? And if they
find out, how do you make sure they know its important?
LANScan Log Groups let you custom tailor the reporting of Events to match
their severity and the needs of your staff. To customize Event reporting,
configure a Log Group:
The Log Group defines a general category of Events. Use it to organize
events by type of network device generating the event or possibly by physical
location. The Level is used to assign different annunciation strategies
according to the severity of the Event. A Log Group and Level are both specified
in Event configuration in the form 'Group:Level'.
Reporting identifies how the Event will be announced. Report via
Email sends an email message to the address specified. You can also use this
feature to generate pager alerts. Report via Program starts the specified
program - use this to access systems that LANScan cannot directly reach. Report
via Multimedia plays a '.wav' file - use it to make your computer speak! Report
via Dialog Box launches a popup dialog in the center of the screen.
Response is used to force an Operator to acknowledge the Event. Reset sets a
timeout value, before which the Event cannot occur again.
Create as many groups and levels as you like. Click on 'More Info' to see how
Events are configured to use Log Group:Level.
